Post 2: Truth and Power

In the last post, I talked about the cost of bullying. At its core, bullying replaces something important: Truth.

There are two very different ways to "win" an argument.

One is through truth-evidence, logic, and ideas that hold up under scrutiny.

The other is through power-volume, repetition, intimidation, and pressure.

Both can work in the short term. But they produce very different systems.

When truth leads, the system improves. Bad ideas get corrected. Better ones replace them.

When power leads, the system drifts. Ideas aren't tested-they're enforced.

And once that shift happens, something subtle changes:

People stop asking, "Is this correct?" and start asking, "Is this safe to say?"

That's the beginning of a deeper problem. Because when truth is no longer the goal, the system itself starts to change.

That's what I'll talk about next.
